Nick DArcy Evans

1st Year DPhil Student

Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, I grew up in Aberdeen in the North East of Scotland. I graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2023 following a research project with Prof. Allan Watson in which I developed a metal-free C–C coupling reaction using photoredox catalysis. During my degree, I undertook a research placement at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden in the group of Prof. Thomas Helleday. My project included work on OGG1 activators with Assoc. Prof. Maurice Michel. I then spent the summer in Paris on a research placement funded by the Amgen foundation at the Pasteur Institute in the group of Dr. Marcel Hollenstein, where I was involved in non-canonical nucleotide synthesis for aptamers. I joined the Dixon group in 2023 to work on development of novel synthetic methodology. In my spare time I enjoy bouldering, playing badminton and guitar, and exploring the outdoors.
