Andrew Stirling

1st Year DPhil Student

I come from Fife, Scotland and obtained my MChem degree in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry from the University of St Andrews. After completing a synthetic chemistry industrial placement at GSK in my penultimate year, I joined the group of Professor Andrew Smith in St Andrews for my Master’s where I explored the enantioselective synthesis of organophosphorus compounds using isothiourea catalysis. Now in the Dixon group for DPhil studies, my research focuses on developing novel photocatalytic asymmetric methodologies. My free time is largely spent playing cello in groups around the university, scouting out new coffee shops, or at the pub with friends.
